19 August 2019, Tallinn, Estonia – World Cleanup Day 2019 will take place on 21 September when organisations, companies and individuals alike join forces to clean up our forests, lakes, beaches, oceans and communities of mismanaged trash.
The cleanup action, which attracted over 17 million people last year, will take place in over 150 countries worldwide. The aim of such a massive concerted effort is to raise awareness of trash around us and to encourage everyone to get involved in creating a better environment for all.
The idea behind a cleanup is simple and inclusive of everyone. Anyone can organise their own cleanup or get involved in one already organised; and everyone can choose what, where and how much to pick up. Let’s Do It World, the organisation behind World Cleanup Day, believes that the waste problem does not exist in isolation, we are all affected by it, but at the same time we are also a part of the solution to it. Heidi Solba, President and Head of Network of Let’s Do It World, explained: “Our focus during World Cleanup Day is to activate citizens to take action and become more aware of their surroundings, the trash around them and to change behaviours to become more environmentally aware.” By changing behaviours and consumption patterns, every individual, company and organisation can make a real difference.
Let’s Do It World aims to rid the planet of mismanaged waste and to educate leaders to steer positive change towards environmental sustainability through partnerships, collaboration and through organising awareness events like World Cleanup Day. This concerted effort would not be possible without the help of partners, who have the same vision of a trash-free world and who believe in taking civic action. Let’s Do It World is proud to partner with Allianz, a socially responsible global company that has seen the need to take action for a cleaner future. Oliver Bäte, CEO of Allianz, added: “After 128 years of company history filled with changes, transformation has once again taken centre stage in our strategy and demands our attention. It will determine not just how we do business, but how we live up to our corporate responsibility for the environment, climate and society as a whole, all over the world.”
Let’s Do It World predicts that World Cleanup Day 2019 will be bigger than ever before, with millions of citizens and tens of companies and organisations joining in the global action. All individuals, groups, organisations and companies that value a clean planet and sustainable practices are welcome to join the trash mapping efforts going on now, and cleanup actions on September 21st.
